Tehran has stated that the political relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia will result in a cessation of hostilities in Yemen.
After several days of discussions facilitated by China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia have agreed to restart their bilateral relations.
Iran has stated that the renewal of political relations with Saudi Arabia will speed up efforts to achieve a cease-fire in war-torn Yemen. According to the state news agency IRNA, Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations released a statement saying that the restoration of political ties between the two countries would positively impact the bilateral, regional, and international levels, including in West Asia and the Islamic world. The mission also stated that the resumption of political ties with Riyadh would hasten the cease-fire, promote the start of a national dialogue, and establish an inclusive federal government in Yemen. Iran and Saudi Arabia recently agreed to resume their bilateral relations after several days of discussions facilitated by China. Since 2014, Yemen has been devastated by violence and instability after Iran-backed Houthi rebels took control of much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
